JERUSALEM (AP) – Gaza's militant Hamas rulers say they have accepted a ceasefire that ends an Israeli attack on militant positions after a soldier was shot dead.
Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum says he accepted the armistice he brokered Egyptian and United Nations officials restored calm on Saturday.
The Israeli military destroyed more than 60 Hamas targets on Friday, including three battalion headquarters. The massive airstrikes that killed four Palestinians came after a Palestinian sniper killed an Israeli soldier along the border.
Hamas says that three of the Palestinian casualties were his members.
The second such truce in a week after The exchange seemed to distract the pages once again from a real war. Israel and Hamas have waged three wars over the last decade.
