For years, the trading card game Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft has been on the market, which is also a merit of Ben Brode. The game director is now turning his back on the developer Blizzard Entertainment.
Ben Brode is one of the key figures when it comes to the success of Hearthstone: Heroes of WarCraft goes. In the future, both Blizzard Entertainment and the Trading Card Game will have to do without the previous Game Director, because he leaves the developer studio.
Brode was one of the original members of the Hearthstone team a decade ago and is instrumental in the success of the title, which now counts more than 70 million players around the world. His resignation he announced now via Battle.net forums, where he also reflects the successes of Hearthstone. It was incredible to have worked on a title that touched so many people, Brode said.
How he came to Blizzard, however, is worth a story of its own. In 2003 he was still working as a pizza delivery man and regularly brought food to the developer. As a result, he secured a job as a game tester of Warcraft 3 and worked his way up until he played a major role in game design and ultimately became the lead designer.
In the future, he will be dedicated to new projects. “I’ll help build a new business,” says Brode about his plans for the future. “We’re going to play games, but we have not decided otherwise yet, but I’m looking forward to designing, programming, and creating new things.”
