here is the list of games confirmed so far

PLAYSTATION 5 – A few months before its release, the next Sony console is still as enigmatic. However, several games are already confirmed, when others are likely. We take stock.

[Mise à jour le 13 mars 2020 à 14h12] Timidly, the catalog of the next Sony console is revealed over the weeks. For gamers, this is an opportunity to discover the first titles that will make up the lineup of the PS5, when it will still be released in 2020. Not surprisingly, we can already expect publishers to carry a wide range titles already existing on PlayStation 4. As in every generation, the titles are not able to fully exploit the capabilities of the new hardware, but we will find at the launch of the PS5 several next gen exclusives.

Confirmed games

Godfall : this is the first game officially announced on PlayStation 5. Also planned for PC, the game is published by the editor of Borderlands, Gearbox. Godfall should be released in late 2020 exclusively on the PlayStation 5 console and on PC through the Epic Games store. It is a “fantasy” role-playing game in the third person. It seems that the players have the mission to collect “loot” by fighting “enemies”. For the moment, the developers are not distilling so many details concerning the gameplay. We do know that it will be possible to play solo, duo or co-op with three players. Here’s the game trailer:

Gothic : Following the success of his teaser, the developer THQ Nordic has confirmed that he will recreate his 2001 classic on PS5. The title is confirmed on the next PlayStation, but the teaser was playable on PC. It will certainly not be part of the launch catalog. The developer wants to provide an experience that is “as faithful as possible to the original experience”. We also know that there will be a modernization of the gameplay. The world will be “less colorful” than the original opus. Finally, THQ reaches out to its community and will pay particular attention to returns.

Outriders : Developer People Can Fly has confirmed that Outriders will arrive in 2020, probably at the same time as the new consoles. The title concerns, for the moment, only the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. The first date announced is still unclear, since it extends from October to December. A lot is still unknown about Outriders, but the developer describes it as “a co-op RPG-shooter”. It is intended for the new generation of consoles, and it takes place in a universe of “original science fiction, dark and desperate”.

Rainbow Six Siege : Game already available on current media, Rainbow Six Seige will be available at the launch of the next PS5. It was Ubisoft who confirmed it, indicating that the title will benefit from several features. Better quality textures, improved framerate and resolution. No worries about a possible lack of players, since PS5 players will be on the same server as PS4 gamers.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum : Long awaited, the next game The Lord of the Rings was announced in March 2019. This game will offer an “amazing adventure on the next generation of consoles”. Daedlic also confirmed that Gollum will be released in 2021 on PC and “on all the consoles concerned at that date”. No confirmation has yet been given regarding the fact that the game can be intergenerational (PS4 and Xbox One). Finally, few details are released on the gameplay of the title: we know that it will be an “action-adventure” which will narrate the life of Gollum (and Sméagol therefore). According to Carsten Fichtelmann, the boss of the Daedalic studio, the story will notably present the life of Sméagol before the “books”. The player will have many narrative choices, which will take the form of decisions and punctuate the adventure.

A new game from Bluepoint Games studios : Bluepoint Studios is the first company to have publicly revealed that it is developing a title for the new generation of Sony consoles. We know these studios for their portages in recent years (Uncharted, Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, etc.). The PS5 does not seem to escape this widespread practice on the PS4. There are rumors that it may be the remake of Demon’s Souls, the ancestor of Dark Souls. No information on a launch date, however.

Watch Dogs: Legion : while it was supposed to be released in March 2020, Watch Dogs Legion will not be available until the following financial year (which runs from April 2020 to April 2021). With this delay, it seems that Watch Dogs Legion is more than ever likely to be deployed on the PS5. Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, officially confirmed this at the end of 2019.

Gods and monsters : Ubisoft’s second title, Gods and Monsters is another game announced for the PS4 at E3 2019 and whose release has been postponed to the next financial year when it should have taken place at the beginning of 2020. Yves Guillemot also confirmed that the title will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

Rainbow Six Quarantine : officially confirmed for the next generation of console (by Yves Guillemot too), this game would make a change in the franchise: in this game, three players team up to face bloodthirsty zombies, using the same gameplay mechanics as we knows about the Siege episode. It is still unknown if Quarantine will also be available on PS4 like its predecessor.

The games that should arrive

Be careful, this is a list of games that have not yet been confirmed for the next Sony console, but which should be, logically. Most arrive in the last months of the PS4. The rest, planned for next year, is likely to be available on both generations simultaneously. The most likely is Cyberpunk 2077, which has been confirmed for the Xbox Series X, but not yet for the PS5. We can also mention Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us: Part 2, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls 6, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Grand Theft Auto 6. In addition, the next big Sony projects like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn 2 should probably be released exclusively on PS5.

Sony confirms PS5

Sony also confirmed in a blog post that the name of its next console will indeed be “Playstation 5”. No risk is taken on this side, with in addition a release date announced for Christmas 2020. “This information may not be a big surprise, but we wanted to confirm it for our fans, since we will soon start to unveil details of our plans for the next generation of consoles “said Sony in a blog post.

Sony has officially confirmed a release date for the PS5. It was assumed that the latter would take place after the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and that’s almost true. Indeed, the release date formalized by Sony is at the end of 2020, more precisely the 2020 holiday season, which corresponds to a very good calendar for console releases, but also vis-à-vis international events. If the Japanese manufacturer will target Christmas, a leak suggests that the machine could be released on November 20.

Sony has not yet presented the design under which the PS5 will reveal itself. However, leaking patents have allowed several sites to create 3D models. They give us a taste of what the next home console might look like. Our colleagues from LetsGoDigital looked in particular at designs inspired by patents, but also by kits sent to developers. But like the PS3 and PS4, the final design could be radically different. So be careful.

Kenichiro Yoshida, president of Sony confirmed in an interview with the Financial Times “that it is time to have a new generation of platforms”. For its part, Microsoft had confirmed at E3 2018 that the company was actually working to develop the next Xbox. Many questions arise and remain regarding the functionality of the latter.

Sony has validated some features of the PS5. Ray-tracing will thus be integrated into the Hardware, and adapted to console games. In addition, there should be less loading time, given that the console will now be equipped with an “ultra-fast” SSD, helping in addition to the streaming of live content. The site Wired who had the opportunity to test a prototype claims that some loads are less than 1 second, against 15 for the previous generation! Sony later confirmed the information in a conference, all the while arguing that the average loading times would be 10 times faster than those of the PS4 Pro.

The new Sony console would allow the user to install part of a game, in order to play it faster. It will no longer be necessary to wait until you have downloaded everything to start your adventure. What to compete with new competitors like Stadia.

The technical sheet of the PS5 promises to be very muscular. In particular, it will be able to deliver 8K graphics, unheard of at the Japanese manufacturer. It will be based on an AMD Ryzen 3rd generation SoC (7nm, Zen 2 + GPU Navi). Its power would theoretically be slightly lower than that of its competitor Xbox Series X, with 10 teraflops (against 12). The GPU used, built by AMD (Radeon Navi), will be a modified version for the console. As is customary with Sony home consoles, a Blu-Ray player is included. It will read 100 GB optical discs in 4K.

While leaked patents announced the color, here are many technical details of the PS5 and its controller are confirmed. As expected, the controller has a multitude of sensors, particularly in terms of vibrations. The vibration motors of the DualShock 4 are thus replaced by movable coil actuators, programmable.

In a new patent, it is confirmed that a brand new haptic motor will accompany the device. It is more precise and should reinforce the immersion in the game. For example, it will offer far more variations in vibration than its predecessor, and will be able to adapt to any situation in a game. The external triggers L2 and R2 will be equipped with a new sensitivity system. Again, Sony allows developers to take the experience even further by promising more possibilities. It seems, however, that the player will have the final say on this. It will be possible to customize the vibrations as desired, according to each game. The sensitivity of the R2 and L2 buttons will be modifiable, which has never been possible on previous controllers.

According to the newspaper The Telegraph, Sony has already contacted some handpicked game developers (including Bethesda) so that they start working in anticipation of the future PS5. For now, only a few names from the PS5 catalog have filtered. Godfall is the most concrete. It is a PS5 game but will also be available on PC. It is a slaher in the third person, taking place within a universe fantasy. We can also cite Cyberpunk 2077 or Outriders (Square Enix), a shooter-RPG scheduled for the end of 2020. For the moment, only Grand Turismo 7 and Godfall have been announced at the launch of the PS5.

However, it should be noted that some games were cited by Sony in a blog post. The latter are cited in the idea that they are PS4 exclusives, but since they reach the end of the console’s life, it is very likely that they are also compatible with the PS5, and therefore that backward compatibility is set up for the next generation of console. We are thinking in particular of Final Fantasy 7 or Watch Dogs: Legion.

The official price of the next Sony home console has not yet been officially announced. However, Bloomberg unveiled a report which indicates a manufacturing price of $ 450. The manufacturer would wait for the announcement of the price of its competitor to decide: two lines stand out in the ranks of Sony, those who wish to align and others who would like to make a profit from the exit. The PS4 met with immediate success, especially with its launch price set at € 400. Unless you sell at a loss, Sony will not be able to offer this rate. Currently, the majority of American rumors indicate a price range between $ 470 and $ 500.

Only one “classic” model will be offered at launch this year. On the other hand, we are entitled to wonder if a second version could see the light of day, thereafter. It seems that the PS5 will follow in the footsteps of the PS4, with a “Pro” model. Masayasu Ito, the executive vice president of Sony Interactive Entertainment recently gave an interview where he explained in particular that the console cycles, usually located around 8-10 years, will be shortened to 7 years for the next generations. What develop a PS6 quickly, just like a PS5 Pro model to meet new technological needs.

And if we have a life cycle of this duration we should be able to make changes to the hardware and incorporate technological advances. “ Without confirming the planning of a PS5 Pro, Sony does not rule out the idea.
