Switzerland leads in the nations ranking – the Austrians who are spoiled for success are feverishly searching for the reasons. Ex-ski star and ORF expert Armin Assinger even comes to a rather bizarre conclusion: Superstar Marcel Hirscher is in principle to blame for the crisis.
The ski dominator weakened the team with his solo efforts during training. Assinger at ServusTV: «Marcel was no match for the team. It was clear that there would be a gap after Marcel. If everything had gone normally, the hole would never have been torn so far. »
«Training group emerged out of necessity»
Now Hirscher’s father Ferdinand, who led his son as a coach to unprecedented eight overall World Cup victories in series, is reacting to the Assinger attack. «Marcel had a lot of extra appointments. He divided the training around them. The training group arose out of this need, ”says Papa Hirscher to“ Austria ”.
Why didn’t Hirscher have any ÖSV teammates trained? “That’s not true at all,” countered Ferdinand Hirscher. «We even looked for sparring partners. Nobody found each other once. Then the Choroschilow (World Cup driver from Russia, d.Red.) Drove with us. »
Not surprisingly, Hirschers father, as overall World Cup winner, does not bet on an Austrian, but on Alexis Pinturault from France. (Md)
