how to prevent cell phone memory from filling up with photos

WhatsApp is the most used messaging app but also one of the ones that most fills the capacity of cell phones. The photos, the videos and the rest of the files take up space and, the worst thing, is that the system usually downloads them automatically.

This can be avoided with a simple change in WhatsApp settings, something that can be done for all conversations or for specific ones.

How to prevent memory from filling up with WhatsApp photos and videos

When photos or videos are received by WhatsApp, they are automatically saved in the cell phone gallery, taking up space. This happens because the “Visibility of media files” option is active by default, both on iOS (iPhone) and Android phones. But we can change it as follows:

  • Enter the WhatsApp settings, in the three points at the top of the screen.
  • Go to Settings and select the Chats option.
  • Deactivate the option “Visibility of multimedia files”, which indicates that the audiovisual content is automatically downloaded to the phone gallery.

The option can also be applied for an individual or group chat. Ideal for those groups that usually send countless files.

To do this we have to go to the specific conversation, click on the three points and see the Group Information (or see contact, if it is an individual chat). You have to click on “Visibility of multimedia files” and choose “No” so that they are not shown in the gallery.

In case you want to apply this feature to a specific individual or group chat, you have to open the desired conversation. Then we will have to select the three points at the top of the screen and then click on View contact or Group information, as appropriate. Finally, tapping Media Visibility will turn it off.
