Four other people died in South Carolina and three in Cuba, which was hit by Ian on Tuesday.
Ian is one of the strongest hurricanes to ever hit the mainland United States. It reached Florida on Wednesday afternoon and flooded the Gulf Coast, leaving millions without power and causing extensive damage.
Ian continued to move across the peninsula, weakening to a tropical storm, but regained hurricane strength by the time it reached the Atlantic Ocean, further threatening Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
In the storm, 2.67 million homes and businesses were without power in Florida. As of Sunday evening, more than 600,000 customers had not had power restored.
