CA-NEWS (CA) – Rospotrebnadzor created a fundamentally new gene therapy drug for the prevention of HIV infection, said the head of the department Anna Popova at the international conference on HIV / AIDS in Eastern Europe and Central Asia in Moscow.

“The Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor is working on the creation of fundamentally new drugs for gene therapy, gene prevention and molecular vaccination against HIV infection: a highly active antiviral drug,” Dinavir, “has been developed that is approaching the phase of clinical trials,” words Popova Tass.
She said that almost every fourth Russian citizen was tested for HIV, almost half of people with HIV (more than 47%) receive treatment, whereas in 2012 there were less than a third, and the risk of HIV transmission from mother to child was minimized.
“The main thing that we can now say about, we managed to achieve a significant reduction in the rate of increase in the incidence of HIV infection. And for the first time in many years, in 2017, the growth rate was only 2%, while in 2012 it was 13.4%. This is our common result, it is our common efforts, but this is the contribution of our conferences and our actions, “Popova said.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, in 2017, territorial centers for the prevention and control of AIDS reported 104,402 new cases of HIV infection, which is 2.2% more than in the same period in 2016. The rate of growth is decreasing: in 2011-2015, the annual increase in the number of newly detected cases of HIV infection averaged 10%, the department noted.
