Commissioner of PT Hanson International Tbk Benny Tjokrosaputro is being charged with a life sentence. The lawsuit was charged because he was suspected of being involved in the Jiwasraya Insurance corruption case.
The prosecutor considered Benny and several former Jiwasraya officials to be guilty of corruption and self-enriching. The amount of losses allegedly caused by Benny Tjokro cs’s actions is estimated at Rp. 16.8 trillion.
During the trial, the public prosecutor said Benny was proven guilty of the crime of money laundering (TPPU). Benny is said to have disguised the origin of the assets purchased from corruption.
“We are of the opinion that the elements of placing, transferring, transferring, spending, paying, donating, entrusting, taking abroad, changing forms, exchanging for currency or securities or other actions have been proven,” said the prosecutor when reading out the charges at the Tipikor District Court in Jakarta, Jalan Bungur Besar Raya, Central Jakarta, Thursday (15/10/2020).
The prosecutor said the money laundering was disguised by buying land and buying and selling shares. The action was carried out by Benny in collaboration with Heru Hidayat, Joko Hartono Tirto, Hendrisman Rahim, Hary Prasetyo and Syahmirwan.
In addition to life imprisonment, he is also required to pay a replacement fee of Rp. 6 trillion. Benny is believed by the prosecutor to have violated Article 2 Paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 18 paragraph (1) letter b, paragraph (2) and paragraph (3) of Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law No. 20 of 2001 concerning amendments to Law No. 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.
