Increase in number of corona infections in Ouder-Amstel continues | Weekly for Ouder Amstel

OUDER-AMSTEL The number of newly diagnosed coronavirus infections (COVID-19) has increased again in Ouder-Amstel in the past two weeks compared to the previous measurement period. This is evident from the weekly update of the RIVM figures. The virus was diagnosed in 36 inhabitants in two weeks (from 9 to 22 September) (an average of 2.6 per day). In the previous measurement period from August 26 to September 8, this happened with 28 people.

As a result, the current contamination rate in Ouder-Amstel has again risen sharply from 199.6 to 256.7 per 100,000 inhabitants. That figure corresponds with that of surrounding municipalities. In Amstelveen, the infection rate increased from 114.5 to 221.4 per 100,000 inhabitants and in Diemen from 159.2 to 276.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.

BIGGEST INFECTION FIREPLACE The largest source of infection in the region and now also nationally is Amsterdam. In the capital, 3,211 corona infections were diagnosed in the past two weeks (from September 8 to September 22). In the previous measurement period from September 2 to September 15, there were 2,066. The current contamination rate in Amsterdam increased even further in the past week from 236.7 to 367.9 per 100,000 inhabitants. After Amsterdam, The Hague now follows at some distance with 301.2 infections per 100,000 inhabitants as the second largest source of infection.

RURAL TREND Although the infection figures in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region are considerably higher than in the rest of the country, there is also an increase in the number of infections nationally. In the week of September 16-22, the Municipal Health Services reported 13,471 new individuals who tested positive for COVID-19. That is a sharp increase in the number of infections for the third week in a row. Last week there were 8,265. The percentage of positive tests at the GGD test locations in the past week is also considerably higher at 6.1 percent than the week before. The number of tests taken in the GGD test streets has remained virtually the same.

MORE HOSPITAL RECORDINGS The largest number of infections per 100,000 inhabitants can still be found in the age category 20 to 29 years. But now the number of infections is increasing in all age groups. The number of coronavirus infected people admitted to hospital last week increased to 152. The week before, 92 people were hospitalized because of COVID-19. Most hospital admissions in the past week involved people aged 55 to 84 years. In the past week, 33 COVID-19 patients have died nationwide, 19 more than the week before.

NURSING HOMES The number of reports of people with an established COVID-19 infection in nursing homes was also higher in the past week than in the previous week. The most positively tested nursing home residents were reported in the GGD regions of Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden, Hollands Midden and Amsterdam Amstelland.
