Shortly after Nico became infected with corona, the virus also got hold of his wife Elly. Both were hospitalized, but in different places. The two could therefore not see each other.
Elly is now back home in Bemmel, but still recovering. A visit to Winterswijk, where Nico was on a ventilator on the IC for weeks, is too hard for her. “We were so moved that they had not seen each other for so long,” says nurse Doreen of the SKB. “It is precisely during such a period of severe illness that you want to be close to each other.”
That is why she arranged, together with other nurses, that Elly could stay in Nico’s room for the night. “We were moved and thought it was very special that they did this for us,” says Nico. “They even decorated the room for us.”
He hopes to be moved to a hospital in Arnhem soon, so that his wife can visit him every day. “Of course we sincerely hope that for both of them”, according to the SKB.
