The Washington Redskins' home offensive line took a number of forms this week as the team geared up for Sunday's NFC East match against the New York Giants. The Redskins coach, Jay Gruden, played big with two tackles and tried the smaller one with a more athletic duo.
Friday afternoon, it was still not decided to choose a pair of starters.
The Redskins will not have right-back Tony Bergstrom (knee / ankle) or left goaltender Jonathan Cooper (torn biceps), who finished the season, and Gruden must pick a third group of starters after Shawn Lauvao and Brandon Scherff . were placed in the reserve of the wounded on November 5th.
Linebacker Ryan Anderson (hamstring) is also absent.
"We have a great day tomorrow, just so that our business is connected to who will be present, in terms of communication," said Gruden. "And that could be a rotational type thing. no law says that you can not sub-keep the guards between sets and spot different types in different places. We like to stay consistent, but we have different flavors of guards. We have the mammoth guards we can put there, we have the more athletic guards we could put in there. "
The team signed Wednesday with center Demetrius Rhaney and goalkeeper Zac Kerin. Cooper, goalkeeper Luke Bowanko and tackle Austin Howard were all signed on November 5th. Veteran tackle Ty Nsekhe is also available to play the guard, but Gruden prefers to keep him ready to replace Trent Williams or Morgan Moses.
Defensive end Matt Ioannidis (tibia), wide receiver Josh Doctson (hip), center Chase Roullier (knee) and linebacker Zach Brown (illness) were all doubtful. Ioannidis, who has consulted with medical specialists, has a deep bruise that prevented him from taking part in last week's match and not being trained all week. Stacy McGee should start if he can not play.
Doctson had a sore hip during Friday's practice, but Gruden did not think it was serious.
Linebackers Tae Davis (ankle) and B.J. Goodson (neck / foot) were cited as questionable for the Giants. Goodson was limited to training all week and Friday's session was the only time Davis played all week.
The Giants placed Landon Collins (shoulder) safely in the casualty reserve this week. Star Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. was limited on Friday with a quad problem, but did not receive an injury designation for the match.
