Iran warns Trump

Iran warns US and President Donald Trump against making a “strategic mistake”. It writes the news agency AFP.

The warning comes after Trump went out and said that the United States would crack down hard on any attempt to avenge the assassination of General Qasem Soleimani.

“All attacks from Iran, in some form, against the United States will be met with an attack on Iran that is a thousand times greater,” Trump wrote on Twitter earlier.

Trump’s threat comes in the wake of several media reports citing anonymous sources that Iran has planned to kill one of the US ambassadors in retaliation for Soleimani’s death.

Trump’s order

An American drone killed Soleimani in January. The drone strike was ordered by President Trump, a statement from the Pentagon said in January.

“By order of the President, the US military has taken steps to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qasem Soleimani, the leader of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, an organization considered by the United States to be a terrorist organization,” the statement said.

Large demonstrations

Soleimani’s death provoked strong reactions in Iran. There have been large demonstrations and memorials after his death.

Relations between Iran and the United States have been cool.

Soleimani is said to have ordered an attack on the US embassy shortly after his death.
