TEHERAN – Iranian conservatives won a landslide in the country’s parliamentary elections, strengthening hard-line supporters against diplomacy with the West. But a record turnout provoked a public rebuke to the establishment unit’s request for growing tensions with the United States.

Recognizing the defeat of non-conservative factions, moderate President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday called on the new legislators to represent not only those who voted, but all Iranians.
