After his introduction in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and his complete debut in Justice League Jason Momoa's Aquaman returns to the big screen to direct his own movie. In recent months, many DC Comics fans have wondered when Aquaman's first trailer was created, and director James Wan finally confirmed that the preview will start tomorrow in San Diego Comic-Con. But in case you missed this news, Momoa shared it as much as possible with Momoa: under the water. On his Instagram page, Jason Momoa shared this video that he recorded a few weeks ago while he was back in Hawaii, but the visit was not just about finding his family and friends. As the DC Comics hero that he plays, Momoa is a skilled swimmer, and he started jumping off the cliff and into the water with his phone to deliver a special message: that the trailer of Aquaman . It was a cool moment, but frankly a mess of a perfectly good phone, although one could logically surmise that the people of Warner Bros. gave Momoa a disposable phone rather than forcing him to sacrifice the his. This dive also seemed to have been painful, but hey, whatever it is for marketing, is not it?
This was a particularly long road to Aquaman . The film debuted the main photography in May 2017 and ended in October of the same year. Like most of the superhero films, Aquaman devoted a great deal of time to post-production, and with a film like Aquaman which takes place mainly under water, the VFX are essential. Apart from a few promotional photos of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, it is only in recent weeks that official images Aquaman have begun to appear, showing things like Black Manta with his weird helmet. Fisherman King (who heads one of the seven kingdoms of Atlantis) and even a giant sea dragon! But nothing compares to seeing this first trailer, and now we are only a day away from seeing this first sequence.
Together after the events of Justice League Aquaman sees Arthur Curry finally kissing his royal duties, only to be caught in a battle between the surface inhabitants who threaten the oceans, like Black Manta, and Atlantans who wish to conquer the surface, like Arthur's half-brother Orm, aka Ocean Master. The cast includes Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.
Aquaman dives into the theaters on December 21st, but come back to CinemaBlend tomorrow for the first trailer. In the meantime, feel free to check out our DC movie guide to learn about other projects under development for the DCEU.
