REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) emphasized that exports coal raw ending immediately. He reminded Indonesia to immediately shift from an exporting country for raw materials to become a country industry who is able to cultivate raw materials into finished material or semi-finished goods.

According to him, development derivative industry coal has been very slow. This was conveyed when he chaired a limited meeting of the acceleration of the increase in added value of coal at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday (23/10).

“I want to find a solution to overcome the slowness in the development of this coal derivative industry because we have been exporting raw coal for a long time. So I think it must end immediately, “said Jokowi.

He said, based on the report he received, the development of the coal derivative industry was still hampered by problems related to the economy and technology issues. However, Jokowi believes these problems can be resolved immediately if the company looks for partners.

“If these companies or BUMN have partners, look for partners,” he added.

Jokowi said, in 2019, only a few companies had obtained business permits to optimize coal.

“And we know that in 2019 there were only five IUPK-OP (Special Mining Business Permit for Production Operations) holders who carried out coal upgrading and two IUPK-OP holders who produced coal briquettes,” he explained.
