The next top talent on Dortmund’s wish list
| Reading time: 3 minutes
Jude Bellingham is considered an exceptional talent in England. The Birmingham City midfielder is expected to move to Borussia Dortmund. But who is the 16-year-old for whom BVB wants to spend millions?
EJude Bellingham has already set a record. On August 25, two months after his 16th birthday, England’s exceptional talent came on in the league cup game against Swansea – since then Bellingham has been the youngest player ever to appear for Brimingham City.
And all companions are certain that this will not be the last extraordinary event in Bellingham’s career – a career that has only just begun but is currently picking up steam.
Bellingham is due to switch to Borussia Dortmund this summer – SPORT BILD reports. It would not be an unusual obligation for BVB – the Westphalia has secured the services of young, top international talents several times – but it is nevertheless a remarkable one.
BVB as a springboard
Because Bellingham was on the list at a number of top clubs. So there are said to have been three interested parties from the Premier League with Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United. There were also FC Barcelona and Ajax Amsterdam.
After Jadon Sancho, who moved from Manchester City to Dortmund in August 2017, Bellingham would be the second exceptional talent to join BVB from England. And the motivational situation for the player who went through all the youth teams in Birmingham – currently table fifteenth in the championship, the second division – is likely to be similar to that of Sancho at the time. He seems to see BVB as a springboard and apparently sees better opportunities there than elsewhere: Because in Dortmund, the talents play regularly – in contrast to many other top clubs.
Zorc speaks of “good history”
“We have a good history of developing players who are not yet at a top level. This is an important path for us, ”BVB sports director Michael Zorc had described the transfer philosophy that the club is pursuing years ago. The fact that players like Pierre-Ermerick Aubameyang, Ousmane Dembélé and Christian Pulisic made the breakthrough in Dortmund is a weighty argument that draws young players.
For Bellingham, BVB could also be the next step on the way to a great career. Especially since its versatility would also offer many possible uses: The midfielder can play both centrally and on both outside lanes.
David Stockdale, the Birmingham City goalkeeper, who has regularly taken Bellingham with his car to professional training in the past few months, has no doubt that the youngster will make his way. Bellingham doesn’t mind the hype that has already arisen, Stockdale told the Guardian: “People treat him like a superstar, but he doesn’t care. He is very grown up for his age and has all the qualities to make it to the top. ”
Game against Gladbach takes place
The obligation for BVB seems to be possible because Bellingham only has an apprenticeship contract. In England, young players are only allowed to sign a professional contract at the age of 17. The Dortmunders have not yet commented on the impending transfer.
Your focus will be on the Bundesliga game at Borussia Mönchengladbach next Saturday (6.30 p.m.). The chase duel can now take place. The initial fear that the game would have to be canceled due to fear of the spread of the coronavirus has been lifted.
“We thank you for the constructive talks with NRW interior minister Herbert Reul and health minister Karl-Josef Laumann, which will ultimately allow us to play our home game,” said Gladbach’s President Rolf Königs. However, preventive and disinfection measures are taken for the visitors. Ticket holders from the Heinsberg district, where the virus is particularly widespread, are also given the opportunity to return their cards and get a refund of the purchase price.
