Robert Lewandowski is set to leave Bayern Munich. The Polish national team captain has informed the club’s authorities that he would not extend the expired contract in June 2023. According to German media, the striker’s decision was caused by Bayern’s delay in proposing a new contract at the Pole. Lewandowski felt underestimated by the Bavarians and decided to try something new.
On Saturday, German media reported that FC Barcelona, most interested in the player, had made his first offer. It was supposed to amount to 32 million euros, which completely did not satisfy the German champions.
Although Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern and cannot complain about lack of interest, his transfer is uncertain. All because of the approach of the German champions, who do not want to hear about the departure of the best scorers. At least until they find his successor.
“Lewandowski will certainly complete the deal”
The statement of the club’s director – Oliver Kahn also testified well about the position of the Bavarians. – How much will we enjoy? This question does not exist. Lewandowski has a valid contract until the end of June 2023 and will certainly fulfill it – said the former Bayern Munich player.
According to Spanish media, the approach of the German champions will not discourage FC Barcelona activists. They will come back with another offer in the near future. The Spaniards hope that Lewandowski, who cares to move to Catalonia, will force the transfer of the activists to the current club.
The captain of the Polish national team has been a Bayern player since the summer of 2014, when he joined the club on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund. Lewandowski scored 344 goals in 374 appearances, making him the second most successful player in club history. Only legend Gerd Mueller scored the most goals (525).
