The former vice president of Suriname, Ashwin Adhin, has been released today. The examining magistrate (rc) has unlawfully reviewed the detention. Adhin’s lawyer Kanhai would have confirmed this to various Surinamese media.
Adhin turned Monday picked up at home by the police. His arrest was related to the destruction of equipment belonging to the Vice President’s cabinet during his rule.
UPDATE: There is a lack of clarity about Adhin’s release. Some Surinamese media report afterwards that he is not yet free. The Public Prosecution Service would have appealed against his release. On this basis, he was not allowed to go home.
