He may. But the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Omologata – STO for short – has not lost much on the road: The approval only disguises the fact that the STO is a real racing car – much of the long-distance successes of the Huracan Super Trofeo Evo and the Huracan GT3 Evo (including three victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona in the USA) benefits.
Anyone who is or wants to become a racing driver will be well served with the new Huracan STO. The naturally aspirated V10 engine develops 640 hp (471 kW) and 565 Nm at 6500 rpm. The rear-wheel drive vehicle sprints to 100 km / h in 3.0 seconds or to 200 km / h in 9.0 seconds and on to the top of 310 km / h.
Racing for the road
“The Huracan STO is perfectly matched to the most demanding racetracks in the world, but was created for the road,” says Head of Technology Maurizio Reggiani. “The technical solutions gained from our Super Trofeo and GT3 programs were implemented in the STO so that the driver can experience the emotions of a racing driver every day in a street-legal Lamborghini – which is also able to set lap records.”
The front hood, fenders and the front bumper of the super sports car consist of a single component, which the engineers named Cofango – the combination of Cofano (German hood) and Parafango (German fender). This not only saves weight, but also saves time during pit stops. Special air channels on the hood improve the airflow through the central cooler and contribute to more downforce. In addition, the Huracan STO offers a new front splitter, which directs the airflow in a targeted manner to the vehicle underbody and the rear diffuser.
Another minus 43 kilos
The redesigned engine hood provides improved air cooling in the engine compartment. The adjustable rear wing optimizes the aerodynamics depending on the race track. The overall efficiency of the airflow has been improved by 37 percent and the contact pressure has been improved over the Huracan Performante increased by 53 percent.
Thanks to the carbon body, the curb weight of the STO is 1339 kilos, 43 kilos below that of the Huracan Performante. This is also ensured by a lighter windshield and special magnesium rims. On it either Bridgestone Potenza tires as road or in the racing version.
Probably a good 280,000 francs
For handling on the slopes, the sharpest Huracan offers rear-wheel steering, a more direct steering ratio and the three driving modes “STO”, “Trofeo” and “Pioggia”. The driving dynamics system is linked to a variable damper setting and adapts to the most varied of road conditions. The price of the new Lamborghini Huracan STO has not yet been fixed, but it could come to around 280,000 francs. Not a cheap toy to put under the Christmas tree next month.
