Celebration of the 44th anniversary of the recovery of Oued Eddahab province

The 8th edition of the “Dakhla Downwind Challenge”, an unprecedented sporting event and an exceptional adventure that offers its participants the greatest kitesurfing downwind in Africa, opened on Monday in Dakhla.
The wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, the governor of the Oued Eddahab province, Lamine Benomar, gave the official start of this competition, which will continue until August 19, as part of the celebration. on the 44th anniversary of the recovery of Oued Eddahab province.
Placed under the great patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, this sporting event is initiated by the Moroccan Kitesurfing Association (AMKS), under the auspices of the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation (FRMV), in particular partnership with the wilaya of Dakhla-Oued. Eddahab Region, the regional council and Agency for the promotion and economic and social development of the southern provinces of the Kingdom.
Its goal is to create a new dynamic in the city of Dakhla, known for its assets and tourism potential, which allows it to establish itself as a privileged destination for amateurs and professionals in kitesurfing.
The president of AMKS Soufiane Hamini pointed out that “Dakhla Downwind Challenge” is an event that offers kitesurfers the biggest downwind of kitesurfing, with an average of 100 Km per day, surfing on the virgin beaches of the Moroccan coast.
Mr. Hamini, who is also a former kitesurfing world champion, pointed out that the southern pearl has the best sites in the world to practice this gliding sport, stressing that the participants will discover the breathtaking landscapes of the Moroccan desert. and live an exceptional adventure. In addition to the Moroccan participants, this sporting event sees the participation of 40 kitesurfers, from several countries such as France, Spain, Israel, Switzerland, Great Britain, the United States and Australia.
For his part, the president of the Royal Moroccan Sailing Federation, Zouhair Cherqi, indicated that the “Dakhla Downwind Challenge” has forged a place of choice on the regional and international sports scene, pointing out that it is an exceptional adventure where the participants show endurance and perseverance to reach the finish line.
This international competition, supervised by the Moroccan Kitesurfing Association, will be followed by the organization of several sporting events in sports gliding, in particular the organization of the Arab Championship next November.
This sporting event is spread over five stages, namely El Argoub Jdid beach, Cintra Bay, Rasse El Kassah site, Bir Gandouz Bay and Corvero Point to Lagouira Bay, with technical stops at Dune. Blanche, Puerto Rico beach and Cap Barbas.
“Dakhla Downwind Challenge” is not a speed race, but an endurance trip whose goal is to arrive safely by surfing on virgin beaches, while being supervised by professionals.
During this competition, the Moroccan Kitesurfing Association will organize a clean-up campaign in the sites of Cintra Bay and Rasse El Kassah.
