Argentine dancer and choreographer Juan Carlos Copes, legend of tango, died on Saturday at the age of 89 from complications related to Covid-19, his family announced.
“Everything went very quickly, my father died …. He will always shine in the middle of the stars and forever in the history of dance tango”, announced on social networks his daughter Johana Copes. The octogenarian was infected in December by the new coronavirus.
Juan Carlos Copes, born May 31, 1931 in Buenos Aires, had become famous for having made tango known as a full-fledged choreographic style and brought this popular dance to major international stages.
He had formed a legendary tango couple with Maria Nieves. They had been married from 1964 to 1973, but continued to dance together until 1997.
