Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group will invest $ 1.5 billion in a new assembly platform at its Windsor, Ontario plant to produce hybrid and electric vehicles.
“We were able to negotiate between $ 1.35 billion and $ 1.5 billion for our Windsor assembly plant, which will stabilize this facility in the long term,” Unifor union president Jerry Dias said in a statement.
The three-year agreement in principle has avoided the threat of a strike and also provides for the creation of 2,000 jobs in 2024, he said.
The Unifor union reached an agreement in principle with the automaker Ford at the end of September for an investment of $ 1.95 billion.
