There was a time when OpenOffice was the first choice when looking for a free office suite. But the public interest also attracted more and more external developers with whom the original provider Sun did not really know what to do with. The collaboration with the community proved to be tense right from the start; the software manufacturer showed little interest in absorbing the increasing number of contributions from external developers. This initially frustrated Linux developers in particular who would have liked to create a better office suite for their operating system.
