Frankfurt am Main The German airline Lufthansa will no longer welcome passengers with the address “Ladies and gentlemen”. The English address “Ladies and Gentlemen” will also be a thing of the past.

In future, cabin crew will have to use gender-neutral wording in communication with passengers. The information, which was first brought by the daily Bild, was confirmed to the DPA today by a spokesman for the airline.
The new rules apply to all airlines belonging to the Lufthansa Group, including Austrian Airlines, Swiss, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines. “We care that we address everyone when addressing,” said a Lufthansa representative, according to the DPA.
Completely neutral wordings such as “Hello”, “Good evening” or simply “Welcome on board” are possible. The decision as to which welcome will be used will be up to the flight chief.
