Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes that Fred only needs to add goals to his game to become the “perfect” player at Old Trafford.

The resurgence of the Brazilian this term has been one of the stories of the United season, while Fred has silenced the doubts to become a first team officer at the Theater of Dreams.

Fred was hired for £ 52 million during Jose Mourinho’s last summer at the club, but the Portuguese coach reportedly told the midfielder that he was surpassing the requirements during his debut campaign.

Fred struggled with the adaptation to the Premier League, while the club’s upheaval made it difficult for him to settle.

But Hargreaves praised the midfielder for his performances this season and says he will be the “perfect” player if he can add goals to his game,

“He is a complete midfielder, but if he can add goals to his game, he will be the perfect midfielder,” Hargreaves told Premier League Productions.

‘In possession he is very good, out of possession he is really aggressive and now the players around him are working, which is a really good sign.’

Fred scored only once during his first season at Old Trafford, but he increased that count to three goals with a brace in United’s recent win against Club Brugge.

Hargreaves believes he is benefiting from the consolidated nature of the United team and says there was a misunderstanding when he signed the type of player he was for the first time.

“I think because they paid £ 50 million for Fred and it’s Brazilian that people thought he was an n10 but he isn’t,” continued Hargreaves.

‘He is not a scorer and he is not very creative, but what he is is an excellent midfielder. He’s on his feet and now we’re seeing the player who was at Shakhtar, where he made brilliant performances against the best teams in the Champions League.

‘In possession he is really good. He is energetic without a ball and now with Matic as a babysitter Fred can be box-to-box, before he was too tall and sometimes too deep but now this is a midfield three [Matic, Fred, Fernandes]]is balanced, everyone feels comfortable. “
