More than 100,000 dead in Mexico
For his part, Dr. Hugo López – Gatell Ramírez, Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, recognized that the more than 100,000 deaths by coronavirus are a figure that was not expected at the beginning of the pandemic, which is why it is already considered one of the main causes of death in Mexico.
It is an unpleasant, sad, unfortunate positioning for human beings, as one of the leading causes of death. We do not know what it will end up being (the final figure) as the epidemic continues, just like the other conditions that were already there before the epidemic.
The official recalled that the causes of death have been dominated by non-communicable diseases, in addition to homicides, suicides, traffic accidents and those at home.
And on the other hand, he stressed, there are the economic and social consequences of the pandemic. There is a part that is, to a certain extent, inevitable, and that is that people with the greatest need go out to carry out economic activities.
As for the recent approval in the Senate, in general and in particular, of the Federal Law for the Regulation of Cannabis which will regulate the cultivation, production, distribution, sale and consumption for recreational use, López-Gatell pointed out that the Ministry of Health has no legal competence to comment on it
“In the recreational part, we declare ourselves incompetent, in the sense of legal competence, not that we do not have different perspectives, but it is not our field of legal competence to say whether it is good or bad, whether it should be done or have a program to incorporate its use recreationally ”, he sentenced.
