After eight seasons at Paris Saint Germain, Thiago Silva left the club at the end of the Champions League Final-8 in Lisbon. The Brazilian gone to other skies, it’s his compatriot Marquinhos who appears as the natural candidate for his succession as captain. Player of the capital club from 2009 to 2014, Christophe Jallet, now consultant for Telefoot La Chaine, believes it is a logical choice given the performance of the defender.
“No one deserves it more than Marquinhos. The armband is not his right because he would have been promised, but it fits into the logic of things. Marquinhos has the perfect profile for the job. It is legitimate in its performance, is a driving force for the group, believes Christophe Jallet in the columns of Parisian. The best captain is the one who commands respect without having to say a word. He has that, this rage to win, this desire to fight for his own that makes others want to strip themselves for him. In verb, he may not have the charisma of a Zlatan, for example. But it is in the acts and the implication and that is worth all the rest!“
During his press conference today, Thomas Tuchel also voted Marquinhos to take on the role of captain this season.
““Yes it makes sense that he is our captain. You know very well that when Thiago Silva and Kimpembe were there with their abilities and their qualities, the best solution was to leave Marquinhos in the middle because he gives capacity, does the counter-pressing and assists the central defenders. He showed that during the Champions League with more goals.“
