Half a year after announcing the end of his career for the third time, former mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Conor McGregor will return to the cage. The 23-year-old Irishman will face American Dustin Poirier at a UFC gala dinner on January 23.
“I’m very happy to be back and do what I love again,” McGregor said. He ended his career in 2016 and 2019, but then always returned. He last appeared in the octagon in January this year, when he defeated American Donald Cerron after 40 seconds.
He fought Poirier as early as 2014 and won the technical round. His next return will probably take place in Abu Dhabi, where the UFC created a closed “bubble” for its actions during the coronavirus pandemic.
