Laval Rocket goaltender Michael McNiven went through hell against the Toronto Marlies, who eventually won 6-2 against the Montreal Canadiens, Monday at the Coca-Cola Coliseum.
The 24-year-old masked man gave up four times on 16 shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Joey Anderson was the first to beat him, twice rather than once in the first 10 minutes of the game. Anderson was also the most productive skater of his team, he who added an assist for three points.
Then Antti Suomela gave his side a three-goal lead with 72 seconds left in the game. Joseph Blandisi ended this infernal sequence by shaking the ropes just 13 s before retiring to the locker room.
Rocket head coach Jean-Francois Houle opted for a goalie change in the second period, but the short-term effects didn’t have the desired effect. Joseph Duszak only needed 2 min 46 s to beat Cayden Primeau. The latter finally repelled 19 of the 21 pucks directed towards him, also yielding in front of Kyle Clifford.
The reply from the visitors came from the stick of Rafaël Harvey-Pinard, during a power play in the second period, and that of Louie Belpedio, in the third period.
The two formations will again be opposed to each other, still on the ice surface of the Marlies, on Wednesday.
