More than 8,000 new corona infections – 231 new deaths

The health authorities usually report fewer new infections on the weekends because fewer tests are carried out. In a weekly comparison, however, the number of corona cases on Sunday fell.

The German health authorities have that Robert Koch Institute (RKI) 8,616 new corona infections reported within one day. In addition, 231 new deaths were recorded within 24 hours, according to figures from the RKI on Sunday. Exactly one week ago, the RKI had recorded 11,192 new infections and 399 new deaths within 24 hours.

The high of 1,244 new reported deaths was reached on January 14. In the case of the new infections registered within 24 hours, the highest value was reported on December 18, at 33,777 – but this included 3,500 late reports.

According to the RKI, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants reported within seven days (seven-day incidence) was 75.6 on Sunday morning. Its previous high was reached on December 22nd at 197.6. Most federal states continue to record falling seven-day incidences, according to the RKI.

The RKI has counted 2,284,010 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of February 7). The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher as many infections are not detected. The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 61,517. The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at around 2,029,200.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.95 according to the RKI situation report from Saturday evening (previous day 0.93). This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 95 more people. The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago. If it is below 1 for a long time, the infection process subsides.

The number of corona intensive care patients in Germany has fallen to below 4,000. As can be seen from the time series of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive and Emergency Medicine (Divi), 3,958 Covid-19 patients were treated in intensive care on Saturday (as of 12:17 p.m.) That was 108 less than the day before. Over half of the patients received invasive ventilation. The last time the number of corona intensive care patients was below 4,000 on December 3, it had risen to over 5,700 by the beginning of January.
