Between the holidays, the license delay and the health pass, many clubs are forfeited this season in the first round of the Coupe de France.
Last weekend, twenty clubs were forfeited in the first round of the Coupe de France between Normandy and Burgundy Franche-Comté. Since the start of the week, the number of clubs that will not play “the cup of all possibilities” has not stopped swelling … and it is certainly not over until Sunday, the day of most met. And the reasons for these packages are multiple between the lack of players because of the holidays, the delays in taking the license and of course the health pass.
The League where the number of forfeits is the most important for this first round of the Coupe de France is Paris Île de France with no less than 33 clubs which will not play this weekend. “It is mainly because of the Health Pass because some players do not want to be vaccinated, explains Luis Norinha, president of the Marles Athlétic Club (Seine-et-Marne). But it is also for lack of time to validate the licenses, because at the end of August it is too early for this tour of the Coupe de France. “ But why so many packages in the biggest League of France?
Health pass, lack of licensees and… back from vacation!
“This Friday noon, we had 33 forfeits or 18% of registered clubs, specifies Jamel Sandjak, the president of the League. The main reason is the lack of sufficient staff. We have seven clubs out of the thirty-three which told us that the package was linked to the implementation of the Health Pass. Last season, we had 21 forfeits out of 124 games (17%) for this first round. We therefore have more teams that will compete in the Coupe de France than last season with a slightly higher percentage of withdrawals. “
In the other Leagues, there are twelve packages in Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie, ten in Hauts-de-France and Auvergne Rhône-Alpes or nine in the Grand-Est. On the podium of good students, we find Center Val de Loire and Bretagne with three packages. “We are sorely lacking in manpower especially to play against a Regional 3 and it oscillates between lack of sanitary Pass and a few holidaymakers” underlines a leader of the US Saint-Donan (Côtes d’Armor).
In the Pays de la Loire, only two clubs will be missing this Sunday. But in all Leagues there could be some last minute surprises with clubs failing to muster enough players for their first round match or failing to show a valid Health Pass. Answer Sunday evening.
