Multnomah Coronavirus County patient dies, first in Oregon. news

The Oregon Health Authority on Saturday evening announced the first death of the COVID-19 virus in the state.

The deceased is a 70-year-old man in Multnomah County, admitted to the Portland Veterans Medical Center.

He was a resident of Multnomah County and was not connected to the cases in the Oregon veteran home in Lebanon.

“While we knew we would get to this day at some point, this does not reduce the impact,” said OHA director Patrick Allen in a statement. “Our thoughts and our deepest sympathy are for the family of this individual who has honored his country.”

OHA said the man had underlying health conditions. It tested positive for COVID-19 on March 10th. He has had no contact with confirmed cases and has not traveled to any country outside the United States where the virus circulates.
