The State Institute for Organic Chemistry and Technology
A Novichok depot
There is also a scientific research institute in the list of sanctions launched by the European Union for the poisoning of the blogger and opponent Aleksej Navalny. To end up in the crosshairs of the EU, in addition to notable figures of Russian power (see below), is the State Institute for Organic Chemistry and Technology (GosNIIOKhT). The institution was involved in the production of chemical weapons in Soviet times. In particular in Shikhany, in the Saratov region on the Volga, the Novichok, a very dangerous nerve agent. After the end of the Cold War, Russia and the United States caught up an agreement for the destruction of the arsenals of chemical and bacteriological substances held. So the institute would have to get rid of the Novichok.
But now it turned out that the executives of the institution did not follow the rules. Either they secretly kept some particular substances that were not known by international partners or, even, they developed new ones. And it is with one of these substances that, according to German, French and Swedish laboratories, Navalny was hit while he was in Tomsk, Siberia.
In addition to the institute, they ended up on the European list characters who, due to their position, could not be unaware of the action taken against the blogger. “Since it was under the continuous control of the Federal Security Service,” the internal intelligence organization was involved in the action. The same goes for the offices of the Russian presidency that have come under fire by the European Union. Here are the seven people who will no longer be able to enter Europe. All their possible possessions and bank accounts in the Union will be frozen.
