AUCKLAND, KOMPAS.com – New Zealand police arrested two men who were carrying lots of KFC chicken and tens of thousands of dollars when they entered Auckland suspiciously in the middle of the night.

Police said the two men, aged 23 and 30, had traveled from Hamilton, about 75 miles south of Auckland.
A police spokesman told BBC that his officers made the arrests after they spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle driving down a gravel road on the outskirts of town.
“After seeing a police car, the vehicle turned around and drove away to avoid the police,” police officers said BBC on Tuesday (21/9/2021).

“The vehicle was searched and police found cash, in addition to empty bags and a large quantity of take-away food,” the police continued.
Police photos show at least 3 baskets of KFC chicken, 10 prayer bowls, a large package of French fries, and 4 large bags of other KFC goods.

Police also confiscated cash worth 100,000 New Zealand dollars (Rp 996.7 million).
It is not clear whether the people intended to sell the food or whether they hoped to use it as a distraction, if they were dismissed.
The police spokesman said the men would be tried in court at the end of 2021, for violating public health rules amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, he said that it was possible that other allegations would emerge after further investigation.
Meanwhile, breaking the rules lockdown New Zealand’s anti-Covid-19 laws alone would have faced severe penalties.

Rule breaker lockdown it will be fined at least NZ$4,000 and some violators could even face jail terms of up to 6 months.
The two men who brought a lot of KFC food are not the first Aucklanders caught carrying a lot of fast food amid the rules lockdown strict.
Last week, a 20-year-old man was charged after he posted a video on Tiktok showing him leaving Auckland and buying a lot of food from McDonalds.
Auckland will change to rules lockdown level 3 starting at midnight on Tuesday (21/9/2021). However, freedom of activity will still be severely limited, with residents prohibited from leaving their homes, except for school, work or shopping.
Meanwhile, the rest of New Zealand’s cities remain in the lockdown level 2 with shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs all open.
