Neymar dropped a mini bomb after PSG’s 3-1 win over ManUtd and publicly announced that he is determined to play with Lionel Messi again next season. These weren’t empty words or words out of thin air. In fact, the Brazilian is actively promoting his buddy – and has been for a while.
As “RMC” journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi reports, Neymar wanted to guide the 33-year-old Argentinean to Paris last summer. Messi was known to be ready to leave Barça at the time, but was called back by the now resigned club leadership and received no clearance.
With regard to the coming season, the situation is completely different: Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season. He can negotiate with other clubs from January 1st. Not only Neymar, but also PSG officials are keen to sign Messi if he is financially manageable. Corresponding discussions could start soon.
However, Barça remains Messi’s first interlocutor for now. A new president will be elected on January 24th. It is then up to this and the new board to clarify whether and how the path with the magic flea will continue. Otherwise, PSG and Manchester City are considered the hottest candidates to take over the superstar.
It is even possible that Messi will replace young star Kylian Mbappé in Paris, whose contract expires in 2022 and for whom the contract negotiations have so far not been fruitful.
