Nintendo has applied for trademarks in Japan for two striking terms. The terms in question are ”Game Boy Color” and ”GBA” which refers to the Game Boy Advance.
The applications were submitted on October 14, but have only now been published. The trademarks are useful in the areas ”video game program, downloadable video game program”, although that goes without saying.
That Nintendo renewed its trademarks is not very special in itself, that’s how they protect their products and name. The timing is striking, however, as rumors are circulating that Game Boy titles would also be coming to the Switch Online service. Whether these will become part of the Expansion or even another Expansion in itself is unknown, however.
