One hundred years of Fiat in Spain: a company created with 500,000 pesetas

In 2019 Fiat celebrates the 120th anniversary of its founding and, in turn, the 100th anniversary of its arrival in Spain as "Fiat Hispania". The first appearance of Fiat in Spain is verified with the founding of Fiat Hispania on August 14, 1919 in Madrid, an industrial company that was created with a capital of 500,000 pesetas and whose corporate name was maintained for six decades.

Those were years in which the brand became one of the main players in the expansion of the automobile in the country with a prominent presence in the most important exhibitions and even the inauguration of one of the first dealerships in Spain in the Gran Vía de Madrid. Between 1950 and 1970, some 5.5 million cars under the Fiat license will be manufactured in Spain, including not only passenger cars, but also industrial and agricultural vehicles.

Models such as Fiat 500, 124 or 131 repopulated the roads throughout the continent through the different versions that each country manufactured locally and Spain was one of the most important markets in this business model.
