Social Security will “drastically” reduce support for workers in Ovar who are unable to work due to the state of calamity due to public health. The alert was launched by the Ovar Council of Merchants and Entrepreneurs Support Group (GACEMO).

In the initial period of 14 days, workers prevented from exercising their professional activity have foreseen the payment of an allowance for prophylactic isolation in an amount corresponding to 100% of the remuneration.

With the extension of the calamity state (between 2 and 17 April), the Social Security Institute clarified that, “in this period, the same workers will only be entitled to sickness benefit, corresponding to 55% of the remuneration in the first 30 days, 60% from 31 to 90 days, 70% from 91 to 365 days and 75% after 365 days ”.

An understanding that GACEMO considers “absolutely incomprehensible to workers residing in the municipality of Ovar, since, despite the fact that it is forbidden to travel to their respective jobs, they end up seeing unjustifiably reduced family income, when compared to situations applicable to workers resident in the rest of the country. ”

Therefore, the group announces that it will start, immediately, “the elaboration of a public petition, with a view to the adoption of different measures applicable to the municipality of Ovar, demanding that the total amount corresponding to the remuneration be attributed as long as the period of calamity ”(full release).
