The Himalayas were marked as Jammu and Kashmir which were illegally occupied by India
The move was carried out ahead of the anniversary of one year since India revoke Khasmir’s special status unilaterally. The new map marks the Himalayan region as “Jammu and Kashmir occupied by India illegally”, not as “disputed territory”.
“Today is a historic day for Pakistan because the cabinet, opposition and leadership of Kashmir support the new map. Kashmir will become part of Pakistan and this map is the first step,” Khan said in a speech.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the new map shows that Kashmir shares a clear border with China. On August 5, 2019, the Indian government revoked Kashmir’s autonomous status, locked the region, arrested thousands of activists and politicians, and cut off the internet.
Indian authorities are also worried about a protest movement in Kashmir run by India, so they have imposed a curfew since Tuesday. Kashmir is controlled by India and Pakistan in only a few parts, but is claimed by both in full.
Since partitioned in 1947, the two countries have fought three times – in 1948, 1965 and 1971 – two of them fighting over Kashmir.
