Cumulative phosphate production maintained its positive trend at the end of June 2021, registering an increase of 2% after 4.7% a year earlier, indicates the Department of Studies and Financial Forecasts (DEPF).
Extractive sector activity is expected to decline in the second quarter of 2021, in line with the drop in phosphate production, the main component of the sector, of 1.8% in Q2-2021 after + 9.1% in Q2-2020 and + 6.6% in Q1-2021, specifies the DEPF in its recent economic report.
And to add that the extractive sector preserves a positive evolution at the end of the first semester, after a positive evolution of the added value of the sector in the first quarter of 2021 (+ 5.2%). Regarding the sector’s exports, the OCP group’s export turnover strengthened by 23.8% to reach 31 billion dirhams (billion dirhams) at the end of June 2021. According to the DEPF, this development includes an increase in foreign sales of phosphate derivatives of 28.5%, attenuated by the withdrawal of those of phosphate by 3.4%.
