Driving into the center of the old town in Piotrków Trybunalski, as in most cities in Poland, is forbidden, as indicated by signs B-1. The road manager, however, provided for some exceptions for drivers. One of the derogations mentioned is to allow property owners to enter in order to stop or stop on their premises. As reported by “Gazeta Trybunalska”, this permit was to be abused, inter alia, by by the drivers of the former head of the Ministry of National Defense, Antoni Macierewicz, for almost five years.
“They did not turn off the engines on warm days, cooled themselves with air conditioning, they moved against the current, creating an additional threat to other road users” – writes “Trybunalska”.
Everything was supposed to happen not only under the watchful eye of the city surveillance cameras. The police and municipal police did not react, despite the fact that at the same time, drivers of civil cars were punished for similar offenses.
Repeated interventions by local journalists in the case resulted in a letter informing that the case was transferred to the Military Police in Warsaw, because the drivers turned out to be soldiers of the Polish Army. Journalists did not let go and demanded further explanations.
They were submitted by the commander of the Special Unit of the Military Gendarmerie in Warsaw, Colonel Sławomir Tęcza. In a letter sent to the editorial office of “Gazeta Trybunalska”, he thanks journalists for accurately describing the offense and admits that the drivers “violated military discipline while performing their official duties”. Moreover, they were to be “disciplined”.
