You no longer have to run out of your phone plan to hang out on Google, watch videos on YouTube or a Netflix series on the street. Romainville has just installed ten wifi terminals in different parts of the town. The network is called "Wifi4EU". It is accessible, for free, from a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Ten terminals throughout the municipality
They are located: place Carnot, square of the church, square place Léonet, media library / plain Cachin (two terminals), park Simone-Veil (two terminals), room Maryse-Bastie. The square of 19 March 1962 will benefit from its bollard during the month of August, shortly before the end of the connection to the pavilions, scheduled for the end of the summer. "We have chosen places where people are likely to ask a moment," says one in town hall. This is an additional service that we wanted to offer to the inhabitants. "
They seem delighted. Patricia, 44, and her daughter Astrid, 18, discover the existence of the network while waiting for the bus Place Carnot. "It's a great idea, congratulate the mother. Everyone will be able to be connected. Even families who do not have Internet box. And young people will be able to go out, not stay cloistered at home! In the process, Astrid tries to connect. "Oh, it works," she exclaims a few seconds later, already loading a video on YouTube. I will be able to stop using my 4G package. "
"In Romainville, it's the future! "
Sitting on the steps of the Square de l'Église, in the shade of a tree, Mohammed, 28, already uses the network to chat on social networks. "A friend told me about it two days ago. It's fast, efficient and it really helps. I almost hesitate to return my box home, he laughs. In Romainville, it's the future! "
€ 15,000 from the European Union
The realization of this project was made possible by a grant of € 15,000 from the European Union. The municipality has applied for the initiative "WiFi4EU", allowing cities to install terminals wifi in public places. "We added 12 000 € to finance the work, says one in town hall. If these terminals are a success, we will deploy perhaps others in the coming months near bus stops or tramway for example. "
