Schools should also be open for childcare purposes during the Easter holidays, because parents would still be needed as staff in hospitals, for rescue or the police. That was reported by Ö1 on Saturday morning. According to data from Minister of Education Heinz Faßmann (ÖVP), however, should not be open to all schools, but only those where there is a need.
The schools would as of next Monday, by e-mail or phone call, to raise the need for care and parents would then have to give feedback by April 1st whether there is any need. According to Minister of Education Fassmann addressed parents in the areas of trade, police, rescue and hospitals in particular, but also families, “where things get tight at home”, says Faßmann in the Ö1 “Morgenjournal”: “Before other things happen, keyword violence in the family, it is of course more sensible to take a child to a school and take a breath there to be able to. ” Not all schools should be open, but only “as needed”.
In the Easter week should all day from Monday to Thursday Care will be offered. On Good Friday only until noon. For the supervision, teachers would be asked to volunteer, because “Vacation time is always a free time from a legal point of view. That’s why I rely on voluntary work,” says Faßmann. “In the worst case” – that is, if there is a need for care in a school over the Easter holidays and there are no volunteers – the directorate of education can also make an assignment.
Currently, the childcare offer is “little used and needed”. Only one percent of the children in the respective age group would accept the offers. Faßmann believes that this percentage will increase again with the duration of government measures.
