KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (CBS) – A cardiologist from the Philadelphia Children’s Hospital at the King of Prussia’s specialist care site is currently hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus test. Montgomery County officials say the man contracted the virus while traveling abroad where COVID-19 is active. A source says he was in Egypt, where he may have become infected. Now, several schools close this week after students and staff may have been exposed while in the facility.
The Upper Merion resident is currently in critical condition at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.
CHOP claims to be concerned about the health of others who may have been exposed to COVID-19. The services of the Cardiology and Allergy Clinics of the King of Prussia have been suspended and redirected to the main campus.

All staff who may have come into contact with the doctor in the past week have been referred to self-quarantine at home for 14 days. Patients and their families who have come into contact with him are contacted and advised to self-quarantine.
“As we keep the doctor in our thoughts and hope for his full recovery, we immediately shifted attention to the well-being of our patients, families and staff who may have been exposed directly or indirectly to this KOP site,” CHOP told an email. to the staff.
Several schools in Pennsylvania – mainly in Montgomery County – have been affected by students, staff and parents who may have been exposed to coronavirus at the King of Prussia facility. Schools closed on Tuesday include:
- All schools in the Lower Merion school district
- All schools in the Norristown school district
- Simmons Primary School in the Hatboro-Horsham school district
- Neshaminy High School in Bucks County
- Henderson High School in the West School Area School District
There are currently 10 suspected positive coronavirus cases in the state of Pennsylvania. Seven of these cases are located in Montgomery County and one each in the counties of Delaware, Monroe and Wayne.
