Shown hatchback VAZ-2118 – the predecessor of Vesta

What was he like?

On the eve of the network appeared pictures of the hatchback VAZ-2118, which is the predecessor of LADA Vesta. The prototype was released in 2008, and it was created using workarounds – this failed project S. Hatchback was developed along with a sedan, but the five-door, unlike the four-door car, received more than 60 changes.

The main one was a 1.8-liter engine with 112 horsepower. A couple of the motor was a 6-band manual transmission with a cable drive. This power unit complies with the eco-standards Euro-4 and Euro-5. Also, this motor could boast the most reliable start-up in cold conditions.

Within the framework of the project, AvtoVAZ created the original architecture with front-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter engine. The developers also planned to release an automatic transmission and a diesel engine. The VAZ-2118 hatchback was positioned as a family car – it had increased dimensions, a nice exterior design and a comfortable interior with high-quality materials.

The car also boasted an increased level of safety – crash tests of the prototype with the so-called “Magma” body scored 13 points out of 16 according to EuroNCAP. It was planned to launch the cars of the Silhouette family in a series in 2012, however, on the initiative of Renault-Nissan, the creation of completely new models was frozen. In 2014, AvtoVAZ finally buried Project C.
