Sony reduces PS5 production numbers, why?

In mid-2020, Sony is said to be going to increase the number of production of the PlayStation 5 or PS5 up to a total of about 15 million units. However, in the latest news, the plan was canceled

Sony has cut its projection for PS5 production by four million units so that it will only produce around 11 million PS5 units by the end of March 2021.

Quoted detikINET from The Verge, a report from Bloomberg says that the cut is a problem with the production of the PS5 chipset designed by AMD. About half of AMD’s chipset production is called unfit for use.

So due to this problem, the projection for the manufacture of the PS5 was lowered. Although it is said that the problem has begun to be resolved, it is considered that it has not reached a stable level so that Sony continues to make pruning.

However, the preliminary figures for the production amount PS5 is still quite high from initial estimates, where Sony plans to only produce five to six million consoles by the end of March 2021.

This increase in production was carried out because during the current COVID-19 pandemic, the popularity of the game industry has increased so rapidly because many people stay at home and need entertainment such as game consoles.

It is known that Sony will hold a virtual PS5 event which will be held this week. The event will likely reveal the exact price as well as the release date for the console PS5.
