Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
North Korea warn South Korea its test of a ballistic missile from a submarine a few days ago could damage relations between the two countries.
The younger sister of Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un, Kim Yo Jong, said South Korean President Moon Jae-in’s statement about his new missile system that could counter the North Korean threat was illogical and regrettable.
Quoted ReutersKim Yo Jong, the man touted to be Kim Jong-un’s successor, said Moon’s remarks about his missile test were inappropriate and could lead to a severing of Seoul-Pyongyang ties if the president continued to slander North Korea.
In the past week, North Korea has twice tested its ballistic missile weapons to make neighboring countries such as South Korea and Japan confused.
As if not to be outdone, South Korea also claimed to have successfully tested a ballistic missile launch from a submarine on Wednesday (15/9).
Launch Associated PressThe South Korean missile test was carried out only hours after North Korea did the same.
The test of a submarine ballistic missile (SLBM) made South Korea the first country without nuclear weapons to possess such weapons technology.
President Moon also directly observed the missile test, the first for South Korea since last March.
Since then, tensions and the arms race between North and South Korea have been heating up again. North Korea continues to develop its missile arsenal amid a deadlock in talks to denuclearize its nuclear weapons with the United States.
North Korea’s denuclearization negotiations with the United States began with an agreement between President Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un who met for the first time in 2018 in Singapore.
The United States has condemned North Korea’s missile launch test, saying it violates UN Security Council resolutions and poses a threat to Pyongyang’s neighbors.
