Prosecutor Berik Zhuyrektayev said on a television program that Nuraly Kiyasov "blamed himself in the presence of a lawyer", while being questioned about the death of the 25-year-old figure skater.
The prosecutor gave no details of what exactly Kiyasov had said.
A second man named Arman Kudaibergenov is wanted
Ten, 25, was stabbed after a quarrel with people who allegedly tried to steal a mirror from his car in his hometown of Almaty. He died in the hospital of massive blood loss from multiple wounds, the news agency Kazinform said.
Prosecutors treat his death as murder.
Kazinform reported that Kiyasov was brought to the scene of the crime under heavy security today
Ten's bronze in Sochi in 2014 made him the first Olympic champion in figure skating in Kazakhstan. He also won the four-continent championships in 2015 and was 2013 silver medalist in the World Cup.
Ten has struggled in recent years and only managed to finish 27th at the Pyeongchang Olympics in February.
