Switzerland: Isabelle Moret will meet a leading Belarusian opponent

On the occasion of a visit by a parliamentary delegation to the three Baltic States, the president of the National will meet Svetlana Tikhanovskaïa, in exile in Lithuania.

The President of the National Council Isabelle Moret (PLR / VD) meets the Belarusian opponent Svetlana Tikhanovskaïa on Monday. This meeting is taking place within the framework of a visit by a parliamentary delegation to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

The highlight of the discussion will be the latest political developments in Belarus and the expectations of the opposition, Parliament services said on Friday. Svetlana Tikhanovskaya is in exile in Lithuania.

She had lost the presidential election of August 9 to Alexander Lukashenko. The EU and other countries no longer recognize him as president. Following the election, protests took place which resulted in many deaths, hundreds of injuries and thousands of arrests.


The Swiss delegation is traveling to the Baltic Sea to learn about the measures taken in the face of the coronavirus and the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. They will also discuss with the authorities of the Baltic States the question of the EU’s response to the crisis. Discussions with the authorities will also focus on security and energy policy and e-governance in Estonia.

The trip lasts until October 23.
