The assembly of the last giant Airbus “A380” aircraft in France .. Is its era over?

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Made up of four million parts from 30 different countries, the Airbus A380 is the largest airliner in the world and its era is nearing its end.

The initial assembly of the last giant aircraft of Airbus “A380” was recently completed, after the announcement in 2019 that European aircraft manufacturers would stop manufacturing this aircraft.

Since the delivery of the first “Super Jumbo” to Singapore Airlines in 2007, more than 240 “A380” aircraft have come out of this factory.

Initial assembly of the double-decker jet, serial number 272, has been completed, with Manufacturing Plant 40 decommissioned.

Today, the plane moves to Terminal 30.

The engines will be installed and tests will be conducted on the electrical and hydraulic systems, on-board computers, as well as the landing gear and moving parts, Airbus Media Relations Director Anne Gallapert told CNN Travel.

She explained that the final tests will be conducted abroad, including calibration of the fuel gauge, cabin pressure, radios, radar, navigation systems and fuel tank sealing, then “the plane is brought to flight.”

After carrying out engine tests, the plane will make its first test flight to Hamburg, Germany, where the cabin will be installed and equipped, and will be decorated with the clothing of its customer, Emirates Airlines.

The last convoy to the final assembly line was in February of this year, as hundreds set out in the French village of Livignac to see the wings, fuselage sections and the horizontal aft plane, being transported by trucks.

Assembling the A380 parts together is a daunting task, with 1,500 companies involved in manufacturing all the individual parts, from screws to bolts, seats and motors.

Fuselage sections came from Hamburg, Germany, and Saint-Nazaire in France, the horizontal plane tail was manufactured in Spain, and the vertical tail fin was also made in Hamburg. With all parts reaching France by land, sea and air.

It is reported that the “A380” aircraft is one of eight aircraft that are still scheduled to be delivered to Emirates Airlines, and there is still another plane bound for the Japanese airline “ANA”.

The Airbus “A380” aircraft was developed at a cost of $ 25 billion and has a capacity of up to 853 passengers.

“It’s a painful decision,” Airbus CEO Tom Enders says in February 2019, announcing the decision to halt production of the aircraft.

He added, “We invested a lot of effort, and a lot of resources, in this plane.”

By the time of the 2019 announcement, the company had delivered only 234 aircraft, less than a quarter of the number, and up to 1,200, which it expected when the double-decker plane was introduced.

Airline companies ’interest has shifted to lighter, more fuel-efficient aircraft. Today, the epidemic is causing the aircraft’s demise even more.

Airlines including Lufthansa, Qantas and Air France grounded their giant jets earlier this year, when there was a sharp drop in demand for air travel.

The company, “Tarmac Aerosave”, based in the French city of Tarbes, announced the completion of the first project to dismantle the “A380” aircraft in November 2019.

“Airbus” is planning to operate its aircraft in the manner of a flock of birds

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – There is nothing better than taking nature as a source of inspiration, and in the aerospace industry, scientists and developers are looking to aerodynamics undisputedly: birds.

By seeing flocks of some migratory bird species in the sky, the formations in which the birds fly have become a source of inspiration for researchers at Airbus UpNext, a demonstration platform for future flights of the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus.

Migratory birds fly in “V”-shaped flocks to increase their efficiency in flight

A century ago, ornithologists began to explain the theory that birds increase their flight efficiency, by flying in flocks in formations close to each other, taking advantage of the changing airflow in the wings of each bird in the flock.

With this in mind, the “Airbus fello’fly” flight project will involve flying two large commercial aircraft in a “V” position, seeking to imitate the way birds fly in order to increase their efficiency and save energy.

Building on the test flights conducted by both the Airbus ‘A380’ Mega Jet and the ‘A350-900’ widebody aircraft, the ‘fello’fly’ project hopes to demonstrate and measure aerodynamic efficiencies while developing in-flight operating procedures.

Initial flight tests began with two A350s last March. The program will be expanded next year to include the participation of the French company “Bee” and Scandinavian Airlines, as well as air traffic control and air navigation service providers from France, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Dr. Sandra Burr Schaeffer, Executive Director of the “Airbus UpNext” platform, explained in an interview with CNN that the upcoming flight tests using two “A350” aircraft could achieve fuel savings of between 5% and 10%, which is a huge number.

Airbus ‘fello’fly’ V ‘project tries to simulate birds’ energy saving method by forming a letter

Although it might seem easy to just watch a flock of birds to see their energy-saving technique, it is more difficult than imaginable.

Dr. Charles Bishop, from the School of Natural Sciences, Bangor University in Wales, said that birds have been flying in this way for millions of years, but the problem lies in the inability of scientists to conduct experiments to understand this method.

Nonetheless, Bishop cited a landmark paper published in 2001 in the international weekly “Nature”, study author and researcher Henry Weimmerskirche with his team gaining access to pelicans, known in the avian community to be the best at forming a regular flock.

Technically speaking, this study is the only one to show direct evidence of an energy-saving advantage rather than theories of aerodynamics, Bishop said.

Weimerskirche was able to place heart rate monitors on birds. According to Bishop, late-back pelicans seem to save their energy.

The flow of air over the surfaces of the birds’ wings generates air swirls, and if a bird flies directly behind the front bird in the middle, the direct air direction for it from these vortices will be downward, and this will increase the resistance force on the back bird and thus it will have to generate additional energy to overcome it.

But if the bird flies at a certain distance from the right or the left of each wing, the direction of the air coming on it will be due to the swirls upward, and it leads to a decrease in that resistance, and thus it will save the energy expended to fly and increase the flight range of the bird before feeling exhausted.

The back bird must move its wings against the bird in front of it in order to benefit from the direction of the whirlpools.

Like the pelicans, two A350s will make a long-haul flight to demonstrate that the concept of “wake-energy recovery” is achievable.

Burr Scheffer said they need to direct the pilots in order to properly position the two planes.

Autopilot systems will be required to maintain the correct position of the two aircraft, reduce the burden on pilots and ensure a comfortable flight for passengers by avoiding turbulence.

Necessary measures will be tested to enable the two aircraft to coordinate their locations near each other.

And Port Scheffer indicated that they need to make sure that the aircraft can fly close to each other, stressing, “We will never compromise on safety.”

Once the concept of wake energy recovery has been demonstrated, operational considerations have yet to be resolved.

According to Port Schaeffer, air traffic service providers and government aviation agencies will need to be persuaded to change regulations to allow aircraft to fly closer to each other than is currently permitted.

Flight planning procedures for aircraft will have to be developed in order to match their paths with those of other aircraft, along with the locations and altitudes required to initiate this type of flight.

Numeric car keys and a real-time translation app … these are the new features of Apple’s iOS 14 operating system

New York, USA (CNN) – Apple recently unveiled new versions of the Apple Watch and the iPad, but the new iPhone is still behind the curtain and is expected to remain so until next month.

However, even if you are unable to get the latest Apple phone now, the latest operating system, iOS 14, will provide you with a free new update for your current phone, as the new operating system can work on the iPhone 6S and all devices that were released after that.

But, what are the latest OS features for Apple phones? Here are the most prominent ones as follows:

Widgets

Apple will provide an easier way to discover and access new applications, using a feature called “App Clips”. The feature provides a small portion of the app for use at the desired time, whether it’s ordering a scooter or a burger from a restaurant. These apps are small in size and work with Apple’s payment system, Apple Pay. Users can then choose to download the full version of the app from the app store if they want to.

Updates for group chats

Apple has announced new updates to group chats, including the option to pin most important conversations at the top of the message list and tag others in group chats. Users will also be able to set a group photo using an image or an emoji. Additionally, Apple’s avatars, known as Memoji, now have more hairstyles, age options, and face masks coinciding with the pandemic era.

Digital car keys

In the beginning, Apple got rid of credit cards, and now it wants to exchange your car keys as well. Apple has explored a new tool that allows people to use an iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start their car. Initially, the feature will be available only with new BMW 5 cars from 2021. The car’s digital keys can also be shared with other people, such as family members, via the messaging app.

Airpods

Apple AirPods will also be upgraded, as the popular wireless earbuds will be able to move more easily between different devices. For example, users will be able to finish an audiobook and then go to watch a series on an iPad, but when someone calls, the speaker will automatically connect to the phone to make the call.

Translation application

The new translation app can translate texts and audio recordings into 11 different languages, including English, Spanish, French and Mandarin. The app can also translate in real time while two people speak different languages in front of an iPhone.

Watch videos while doing other things

The picture in picture feature will allow users to continue watching the video or making a video call while using other apps, such as iMessage. Users can move the video around the screen as well, or hide it while still listening to the audio.

Incoming calls will not take over your screen anymore

Finally, Apple will address a big problem for users: incoming calls will no longer take over your screen, appearing instead as a banner at the top of the screen.

Privacy updates

Apple has focused heavily on privacy in recent years as a way to differentiate itself from other tech giants. In its latest move, Apple will give users the option to share only their approximate location with the apps, rather than their exact location. In the app store, users will also be able to see a summary of the privacy information that the apps use before downloading them.
